SEND reform

SEND reforms from September 2014

We will no longer use the terms ‘school action’ or ‘school action plus’ but ‘SEN support’.

Over the next 2-3 years ‘Statements of Special Educational Needs’ will be transferred to an ‘Education, Health and Care Plan’ (EHCP).

Parents/carers of children with an EHCP will have the option to manage the funds attached to it.

What are statements and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHP)?

A statement is a legal document which is produced by the local authority following a 26 week assessment process. It outlines the child’s special educational needs and the support the school needs to put into place to support them.

An ‘Education, Health, Care Plan’ will replace the statement. The document will still outline the child’s special educational needs but will be more child friendly and will be based around the child and their family.
